AR's Forty Years of Problem Solving: 1967 to 2007
Overcoming problems and being grateful for the lessons learned is what addiction recovery is all about. For alcoholics and addicts completing their treatment at the Austin State Hospital back in1967 that problem was finding a safe place to live. Austin Recovery was born to meet that need. Through the pioneering efforts of Jim and Hazel Lavender AR had its humble beginnings as a transitional living facility for those newly sober men and women returning to the community.

Groundbreaking/Dedication of the Edith Royal Campus
The Austin Recovery Edith Royal Capital Campaign is nearly at its goal thanks to many generous individuals. The goal of the capital campaign is to double Austin Recovery's bed capacity for chemical dependency treatment beds for those in need.
On May 6, 2008 over one hundred people attended the dedication ceremony of the Austin Recovery Edith Royal Campus at 8402 Cross Park Drive.

Drug Czar Visits Austin
On July 20, 2007 AR hosted a community roundtable and press conference with U.S. Cabinet Member John Walters, the Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy, also known as the "Drug Czar". The presentation focused on teenage prescription drug use and its dramatic increase in the major metropolitan areas in the past three years.

Austin Recovery's CEO Ordained an Episcopal Priest
When Bill Wigmore entered the Jesuit seminary in Detroit back in 1970, he had no idea where God would be leading him. He thought he would be ordained a priest and perhaps he would teach history or do work with the poor. Thirty-seven years later he's doing both, but in ways far different from how he had planned.
