Nurse Manager
Austin Recovery provides compassionate and effective drug and alcohol treatment since 1967. We are currently seeking a full time Nurse Manager for our Detox Unit.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Plans, organizes, directs, and controls activities of the Detox Unit at Austin Recovery’s Edith Royal Campus.
- Provides clinical leadership in application of the Nursing Process to assess, diagnose, determine outcomes, plan, implement and evaluate care for persons withdrawing from addiction to alcohol, opiates, benzodiazepines and/ or other substances.
- Collaborates with Medical Director to develop and revise policies, procedures, and clinical protocols for care of patients on Detox Unit.
- Collaborates with Medical Director, Nursing Staff, Direct Care Staff, Counselors, Clinical Directors and other
- Department Managers and Compliance Manager in Quality Assessment, Assurance, and Performance
- Improvement Activities. Uses tools and techniques of quality management to plan, design, measure, assess, and improve care on the Detox Unit, and within Austin Recovery. Participates in the Quality Management Committee.
- Supervises Nursing Staff, Admissions Nurse, Direct Care Staff Team Lead, and Counselors.
- Collaborates with Counselors and Medical Director to coordinate an interdisciplinary team approach to patient care.
- Maintains 24-hour accountability for P&L and quality of care on the Detox Unit.
- Monitors compliance with budget, including staffing, scheduling, productivity analysis, and supply costs.
- Collaborates with Admissions Director and Marketing Director to optimize net revenue.
- Ensures that Standards of Addictions Nursing Practice, including Standards of Care and Standards of
- Professional Performance are carried out by nursing staff, and that direct care staff support standards of care in their interactions with patients on the Detox Unit.
- Maintains compliance with Texas Board of Nursing Laws, Rules and Regulations, including the Nursing Practice Act and all rules and regulations regarding Nursing Practice and Nursing Peer Review.
- Serves as Vice Chair of the Nursing Practice Committee.
- Plans and facilitates staff access to training, in-service education, and continuing education as appropriate to their scope of practice and position. Ensures that staff maintain current CE to fulfill licensure and accreditation requirements.
- Maintains Incident Report Log for Detox Unit. Collaborates with Compliance Manager to aggregate data and identify patterns and trends. Reviews clinical incidents with Medical Director. Revises processes of care to decrease incidents.
- Demonstrates leadership and role models skills required to maintain a therapeutic milieu on the unit.
- Demonstrates mastery of motivational interviewing and other therapeutic communication techniques.
- Maintains a safe and secure environment on the unit.
- Coordinates Employee Health and Infection Control Activities with Nursing Staff and HR staff.
- Keeps current with required mandatory continuing education and training. Maintains continuing education necessary to maintain RN licensure and certifications, and to maintain compliance with facility licensure and accreditation requirements.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Chief Operating Officer/ Chief Nursing Officer.

Qualifications:
- Licensure: Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas.
- Education: Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing required. Master’s Degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or Management preferred.
- Clinical Experience: 5-7 years full time clinical experience required. Experience in psychiatric or addictions nursing preferred.
- Management Experience: Prior management experience preferred.
- Certification: CARN (Certified Addictions RN) preferred. NE-BC (Nurse Executive- Board Certified) preferred.
- Must be Red Cross CPR/First Aid certified upon hire or within two weeks of hire.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills required. Demonstrates ability to collaborate with colleagues, effectively lead staff, and establish therapeutic rapport with clients.
- Able to coordinate work with other AR departments, agencies, organizations, individuals and the public.
- Computer Literacy: Proficient in use of Microsoft Office Professional, including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint. Proficient in Internet navigation and search, able to learn to use web-based applications and software specific to Residential Substance Abuse Treatment and the Detox Unit.
Physical Demands/Work Environment:
- Communicates orally with management, co-workers and the public in face-to face, one-to-one, and group settings.
- Regularly uses a telephone for communication.
- Uses office equipment such as computer terminals, copiers, and Fax machines.
- Sits for extended time periods.
- Hearing and vision within normal ranges.
- Uses hands to finger, handle and feel and reach with hands and arms.
- Required to stand and walk.
